Ian Indiano

ONE:
ONE was the inaugural solo exhibition of Brazilian-born, Ontario-based artist Ian Indiano. Within this exhibition, a collection of drawings and paintings playfully explored themes such as belonging, roots, and growth. Ian's artistic process for this exhibition was based on a method of free association, allowing him to discover concepts, gestures, images, and ideas, starting from the word 'one.' Ian Indiano's approach was both intuitive and emotional, which enabled a personal connection with his work. He experimented with various media, scale, and composition, and pushed the boundaries between figuration and abstraction, as well as between painting and drawing.

Ian Indiano, born in Franca, SP, Brazil, in 1997, holds a Visual Communication degree and has ventured various creative realms, from advertising agencies and design studios to galleries and cultural projects. His artistic portfolio boasts zines, graphic novels, and a noteworthy accolade – winning the Des.Gráfica open-call in 2018, leading to the publication of his book, "Rhapsody for Operatrix Machine," by the Museum of Image and Sound of São Paulo. Notably, in 2020, he received the McNeill Family Award for Emerging Artists and followed it up in 2021 with the Bob and Shelly Siskind Visual Arts Award. Ian's work centers on experimentation of language, embracing a spectrum of mediums, from comics to painting. He graduated in Fine Arts from Fanshawe College in 2022, and he currently resides in London, Ontario, Canada.
