Big Whoop

September 12, 2015

October 3, 2015

Matthew Ryan Smith

Matthew Ryan Smith’s first solo exhibition in London features a series of paintings based on pixel graphics. Smith scrutinizes the cultural return to pixilation as seen through media such as advertising, gaming, architecture, and film while high-resolution visual technology gains currency. Combining analog techniques with appropriated digital images, “Big Whoop” seeks out new ways to animate the otherwise static square of the pixel.

Matthew Ryan Smith, Ph.D. is a writer, curator, artist, and sessional professor (University of Toronto, Mississauga) based in London, ON.
